TuneIn in VLC - Ubuntu

I installed a few months ago program called TuneIn on my iPad as well as recently on Android phone. I quite like this application, looks nice, you can find good radio streams with high quality. Additionally what I like about TuneIn is that you can create free account and with it you can share your favourite channels across different devices - find a channel once and listen to on all devices. When I finally switched to Ubuntu desktop I was hopping to install this application on my home operating system but it was not so easy or I did not look hard enough.

I was looking for the TuneIn to install on Ubuntu but without luck for some time as well as what media player can support it via some additional extension. One day I found that VLC has extension that once installed allow you to listen to streams from TuneIn.

What I am going to show you here are two things. How to install latest VLC on Ubuntu using PPA and second how to add and use TuneIn extension on VLC.

Apache rewrite module

I was reading recently about Apache rewrite module. When I finished I decided that I need to make a short summary to cover the most basic concept of Apache rewrite module. I have to say that Apache mod_rewrite documentation pages are very useful, informative well maintained- definitely it is in my opinion first recourse to check if you look at any of Apache directives or modules.

Logical Volume Managment overview

Recently I decided to learn about LVM - Logical Volume Management. Below you can find my notes I did when I was learning and reading about the LVM. Additionally I included some examples of commands to perform different but in my opinion the most common tasks that most of us would need to start from.

At the end of this article I posted a few links to online resources that I found useful and well written that definitly helped me to understand the LVM, what it is how and when to use it.

What is LVM?

My web design workflow

It has been a while now since I started researching and learning again about a web design. I have been working with websites and web applications for years. I have done a different pieces of work ranging from design to development, private and commercial projects, simple to complex solutions. I have been always interested in web design and development but I have never dedicated enough time to explore this field – I definitely feel guilty now but there is never too late to improve things. I set up for myself a small project. The main goal of this project was to learn and research about the latest web design changes. Frankly I wanted to re-discover the web design for myself.

I would call myself web developer rather than web designer. I do enjoy more e.g. programming than drawing, designing or sketching. They have never been things that I enjoyed doing. Thanks to my project and commitment I put into it I realised that even I can be designer. Equipped with correct set of tools, knowledge, design principles and best practices (that even the most talented designer follows) I can design websites. I can feel finally more comfortable in the design field.
